Markus Frerker
Senior Advisor Media

Dr Markus Frerker advises United Group across its television businesses. He joined the Group in early 2026 and serves as a director of United Media S.à r.l., United Media Network AG and Zattoo AG (Zurich).

Dr Frerker is a C-level manager, consultant and supervisory board member with many years’ experience in the international media industry, particularly film and television.

He was previously co-founder, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of LEONINE Studios, a German subsidiary of the US private equity firm KKR that produced, distributed and licensed film and television content. He played a key part in consolidating the German film and television market and built an integrated, scalable business, which Mediawan – the French media group also owned by KKR – acquired in full in 2024.

Before that, he was Chief Officer Group Content at ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE, responsible for the group’s content business. He negotiated extensive content partnerships and monetised programme rights across the group’s linear and digital platforms and through third-party licensing.

Dr Frerker came to media from medicine. After studying in Hanover, London, Kyoto and Stanford, qualifying as a physician and completing his doctorate, and practising for several years, he joined McKinsey & Company, where as a partner he led the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) practice in Germany and Austria.
